To My Darling: Rewritten
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
Make way for a true main character! Fujimoto-Beausoleil Kin is a junior high school girl with one thing on her mind — LOVE! This Valentine's Day, she hopes to confess to the boy of her dreams! But she can't do it alone. She needs help from you, the reader, to make the correct decisions throughout her day and lead her to a happy end.
"To My Darling: Rewritten" is a retelling of the original "To My Darling". It is the same story as the original, this time through Kin's perspective. It has several additional scenes, new characters, and multiple endings to discover.

PEAK, PEAK I SAY, PEAK. I've only gotten through 3\6 endings, but MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN I loved all of them so much. SO many clever writing devices used, I was insanely impressed by the character writing and use of the VN medium. Super well put-together too, wow! Hell yeah!
this game is a complete masterpiece i always had a blinded vision about visual novels because of "Doki Doki literate club" since many said it was one of the best and since I didn't like it I thought: "how will they be the worst" and the fact that I gave this a try and I loved it, I loved it, I enjoyed it and I cried with the ending 1 I loved it thanks to this game I will give a chance to many more visual novels and thanks to the creator for making this great game I felt each one of the characters and I really like how I don't totally control Kin's decisions the fact that this is free seems even more impressive to me because of its beautiful art and style that fits perfectly and doesn't feel repetitive every visual detail and every part of the story is very beautiful thank you for making this great game you deserve much more recognition I really don't play visual novels like I said but I feel like none would come close to this one I loved every second every minute every decision and all the love that is in this game I have no words to express how much I liked this experience. Hi here a spanish speaker ;)
Thanks so much for the kind words. I'm delighted to hear that my game changed your opinions on visual novels. There are some seriously phenomenal games and stories told through this genre, and to know that my game made someone realize that is seriously mindblowing! I hope you can continue to enjoy what this genre has to offer. There's something out there for everyone.
I really do appreciate all the kind words. I love all these characters dearly, so to know other people feel strongly for them as well simply warms my heart :')
Thank you so much for playing! It truly does mean the world to me 💝
I finished playing this game...and tell me why...This was the best game ever?!!! Ik this is the rewritten storyline...I might sound dumb or playing as a detective BUT everytime i put the characters names i thought it would give me a different ending!? Anyways this game was so cool and i'd turn back time just to play it again! Ending 4 really spooked me out considering i thought we'd get together with mimiko ehe... LOVE THIS GAMEEE!!
Thank you so much for enjoying!!! Coming up with player name easter eggs was fun, but unfortunately I didn't have time to add additional dialogue for them outside of the blurbs at the start >->" It's a little too late to change the script now, but I'd love to play with naming easter eggs again in future projects that have nameable player characters.
I'm so happy to hear you liked it though!!! It seriously means so much to me!! Thank you for playing 💛💛💛💛
(And if it means anything, I did at one point plan for a Mimiko/Kin ending..... but alas, it never came to be X-X)
i hope the ending with kira is true or i will sob my eyes out
this deserves to cost money on steam or something it was truly lovely
I really appreciate the sentiment, and I'm delighted to hear you enjoyed it ;w;
This game was purely a passion project, so I feel no need to charge people money to experience it. Simply seeing their reactions is enough for me 💙
thats very honorable:)
alternate title of the game: kin seek therapy challenge (IMPOSSIBLE) (99.99% FAIL)
[i jest, i jest.]
SPOILERS BEWARE!!
i started playing the game blind and managed to get ending 1
without the knowledge of the statsso hooray to meplaying this game from kin's perspective puts a refreshing twist on TMD because i saw a lot of my middle-school self in kin... the delulu craving for romance, the vague feelings of self-loathing [before there was a word for those feelings] pushed at bay, etc etc.
it was like looking in a mirror and uncomfortably so; as someone who's BEEN a Kin, it's honestly refreshing to see a depiction of a mentally unwell adolescent that isn't just "i am depressed 24/7/365" and actually has depth. i love how unapologetically MESSY kin is. it just makes her more... real.
i... have one major doubt, though. and a minor one.
ONE- is it just kin's rose-tinted view of aoi that shapes him to be some kind of tragic heartthrob? because i could see aoi reasonably having some backstory, but if you've played the original TMD, we know he... isn't exactly innocent, or rootable for.
Ueda Aoi is going in my shit list and he knows why.
but yes, i do wonder if there's a depth to why he acts the way he does, and seeing how he acts after you tell kyouko and she goes to find him [being vague on purpose here] is honestly kinda funnybecause LMAO GET BEAT DOWN NEPO BABYTWO- I love KiRa☆RiN but i honestly get a little confused as to their identity. i'm trans myself so seeing Kira was a major "HELL YEAH" moment, but i get a little confused, as they're clearly not a boy, yet use the title of 'prince'. just wanna know their identity so i can make them my whole personality for a month. shoutout to my favourite gender-ambiguous chuunibyou
overall, I really liked this game and i eagerly await any future releases from you, both in this series and in general. Keep it up!
PS: not sure if it's a bug but advancing dialogue by using the space bar makes the sprite + bg disappear for a split second which adds to the general unsettling aura of the game. peak fiction 10/10
Thank you for such a lengthy comment!! I always find them a joy to read and this is no exception :'D
I'm going to ramble a bit myself. Please forgive me if it's a lot 🙇♂️
I'm happy to hear that Kin resonated with you. It was a lot of fun to write from her perspective and exploring her character/mental health further throughout the various endings (even if she... does end up worse in most of them). She's meant to be a huge mess. She's meant to be a bit annoying and even unlikeable at times. But in the end, she is still just a kid who's struggling in ways she doesn't fully understand herself. Being 14 years old is kinda just... like that. Sometimes the littlest things feel like the end of the world, even when that might be far from the truth.
I could seriously go on and on about how I feel and what I wanted to convey when writing her... But I think leaving some things up to the audience's imagination is more fun than outright saying it ^-^
Kin is my little sunshine princess. I'm glad that other people like her just as I do, messiness and all ☀️
When it comes to Aoi, I sadly didn't have much time to get into his backstory outside the incident in their first year. I tried leaving breadcrumbs where I could — usually relating to his father and family in general. The extra stories + bonus room might also provide a bit more insight into his character. Again, leaving things up to audience interpretation is more fun in my eyes, so I'll refrain from saying more.
What I will say though is that I don't plan for this to be his (or anyone's) conclusion to their story... So hopefully there will be opportunities to learn more in the
(probably distant)future. For now, feel free to bully the little nepo baby.
As for Kira's gender, their identity is also a little messy. They are transfem and go by they/she pronouns, (or in Japanese, 私 (わたし), which can be gender-neutral or feminine depending on context,) but in universe, they don't have an explicit label outside of “not a boy”. Language surrounding queer identities/issues is a little different in Japan, and Kira herself is still young, so they haven't found the words to properly describe their gender identity.
Kira calling herself a “prince” is meant to pay homage to all those princely women characters (bifauxnen) seen in anime/manga. But in this case, it also adds to that messiness that can be one's gender identity. Sometimes labels are conflicting or complicated, speaking as a trans person myself.
And like I said in Aoi's segment, I do have plans for future installments in this series. I'll most likely end up expanding Kira's gender identity/expression further when the time comes.
Apologies for such a long comment. I had to hold back from saying more lolol. But I appreciate your words very dearly. It truly does give me motivation to continue working :') When it comes to future projects, I'd let to get something out before 2026, so please look forward to it. (It's still in the very early stages of development though, so I can't offer much in terms of information at the moment... ;-;)
PS: I wasn't aware of that! I didn't usually playtest with keyboard, so I'll look into it. Thank you for alerting me! :D
And thank you from the bottom of my heart for playing “To My Darling: Rewritten”! 🫶
thank you for the reply ^__^ time to vividly daydream about the sillies with this newfound information
I just hope that Mimiko and Kyouko can be happy together. Well, I really can't like Kin, she's a disaster, and so is Aoi
I can understand finding Kin to be annoying/disastrous. I wanted to capture the experience/feelings of being an undiagnosed mentally ill teenage girl with this story, so of course she ends up being really messy and even unlikeable at times. (And this isn't exclusive to Kin — every character really has something messy going on with them :'D)
As for Mimiko and Kyouko, this won't be the last you'll see of them. Their story is far from being over, but right now, things are going well for them 🫶
i'm sorry but am i the only one who actually liked the unhappy ending because aoi finally got strangled by kyouka and kyouka and mimiko get to be alive and happy together... like ik its not happy for kin but like
I think I can understand that! While Aoi does get karma in the true end, and Kyouko/Mimiko do get a happy outcome as well, it isn't outright shown, so it may not be as impactful there...
Unhappy End is honestly one of my favorite endings from a literary standpoint, even if there is still that element of unknown tragedy surrounding Kin/Kira's outcome.
Getting to write all the characters interacting in such a tense situation was a treat. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed reading it :D
I haven't finished this yet but I look forward to completing this today
SJDHSAKJH This game is so underrated what??! I've only just finished the older version and one-third way through the first playthrough of the newer one, but first of all, your art has immensely improved, it was already very lovely, but now it's 100x times more brilliant. Kin is such an amazing protag so far (I prefer her to Mimi, but you don't hear me say that). She was annoying in the older version, admittedly, but this version sheds some light on her character that she deserved. Can't wait to unlock all of the dialogue choices.. 10/10 will recommend, I might comeback rambling once I finished it.
AAAA that means soooo much to hear!! I'm glad you've enjoyed what you've played. Kin is such a fun protag to write, so I think that's part of the reason this game ended up being around 3x greater than the length of the original X9 I'm glad that despite all her flaws, people have come to love Kin just as I do :D
I really appreciate all your kind words ;w; It gives me great motivation to continue writing stories and making art <3
OH MY GOD IT'S OUT (nvm the fact that I'm 5 days late)!!! Congratultions on the release! Peak storywriting and peak art, I absolutely love everyone and I think they all were written wonderfully!!! I'm such a huge fan of how lively and animated the characters feel here...
I still really like the original TMD, but somehow this tops it! Thank you for all of your hard work with this game!
AHH SERIOUSLY THANK YOU SO MUCH SYLVAN (nvm the fact that I'm over a month late to replying FSHFJD)!!!!!
I probably wouldn't have been able to make it without everyone's support and love for the first installment. I'm eternally grateful that you were willing to help with the production of this game ;w; (And for pressuring me into adding another ending last minute LMAOOO it ended up being one of my favorites <3)
Let's both keep working hard on our future endeavors!! :D
Sooo I fully completed the game. Practically comsumed it in less than a day. I have a lot to say.
First, IT'S MUCH BETTER THAN I COULD'VE EVER EXPECTED! The writing improved a lot. The new characters fit the story like they've always been there (maybe they were but I hope you understand what I'm talking about). A lot of questions received their answers. Some of my theories have been proven to be wrong, some have been confirmed. Now the story definitely feels more complete but I love that some mysteries stay unsolved. That leaves some things to think about and that's what I loved about the original TMD the most. The story may seem quite simple at the first glance but the more you think into it the more interesting it gets. "Figure it out on your own. It's no fun if I tell you everything." - that Nikki's phrase describes both games perfectly.
Second, I actually like how Aoi changed through the game. Yeah, he's done a lot of bad things, I'm not forgiving or justifying him. I wouldn't lie if I said that I was happy seing Kin treating him just like he deserves in some endings. But it seems like he realized his mistakes and if it's so I'm glad he did.
Third, it was really interesting to view the story from a different perspective (and I don't have to question myself anymore about what happened after Mimiko said "yes" to Aoi in original TMD :D). I'm glad we now know much more about Kin's personality and the relationships between characters. Though due to Kin being the protagonist Mimiko does feel like a side character now.. hahaha.. but I expected it to be like this.
In the end, I just want to say that this game made me happier than ever. I rarely feel so joyful but the second I opened the game I started feeling so incredibly happy I couldn't hide it. As I said in the beggining, I practically consumed this game, I didn't even notice how quickly the time passed. It turned out better than all my expectations. You did a really big and amazing job here. Thanks for partially mentioning me in the note, I felt like I could tear up reading it (and don't worry, it wasn't long or boring to read at all). Have a good rest and keep up your work, I'll always be looking forward to your new projects <3
P.s. Btw I could gladly translate TMDR into russian.. if the same person who suggested translating the original TMD is not already going to do this ;)
AHH THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Your comment means so much, seriously :'D
Fun fact! Both the new characters existed during the development of the original game, but I simply couldn't find a way to fit them into Mimiko's story. (Probably for the best — I wanted to keep that game around 10k words. Adding any more characters would've made things difficult and waaay too complicated.) HOWEVER! Nikki does actually make a cameo in the first game! Her design is a liiiittle different there, though, so it might be hard to tell. But she is there!
Aoi's character as a whole ended up being really fun for me to write, especially when it came to the endings and bonus content. Since Kin for the most part sees Aoi in a much... kinder light than Mimiko does, I wanted to convey more of his struggles/personality than seen in the original. (Even if he's still far from being a good or redeemable person.)
I seriously, seriously appreciate this comment (and the others you left on the first game <3) with all my heart. Knowing that this little passion project of mine resonated with anyone else at all truly brings me joy. Thank you for supporting me and my game. It truly means the world and gives me great motivation to continue working on future projects. 🫶
P.s. I'm a liiiittle overwhelmed juggling some TLs for the first game at the moment, so I'll hold off on that offer for now. I'll let you know when I'm open to TLs for this game, though ;3 I appreciate the offer so much!
Yep I got it!! Nikki is one of the gossip girls in the first game, riiight? :D I just opened the original TMD to check it and she's really there. Nikki and Kira not appearing before is understandable, they don't know Mimiko personally in the end.
About Kin seeing Aoi way better than Mimiko does is an obvious yet interesting detail, I'm surprised I didn't notice it earlier. Actually Mimiko has the same thing with Kyouko I guess? I still like how she hides her obssesion so well. Though, Mimiko idealizes Kyouko much more than Kin does with Aoi
Actually, I told all my friends about TMD and one of them played it and liked it a lot (and probably a couple of other friends of mine are gonna play it soon). I wish more people knew about this project, really.
P.s. Okay, just know that I'm always ready to do anything for this project, I'll wait ;D
P.p.s. I always wanted to ask how would you react to people shipping pairings other than Mimiko/Kyouko?.. Just being curious
aafdshsjkhfdj it means so much to hear that you suggested this game to others, seriously ;w; I don't entirely mind if this series doesn't gain much traction, but I also would be lying if I said attention doesn't make me happy LOL
And regarding shipping, I generally don't mind! I actually like the idea of a lot of other ships outside Mimiko/Kyouko. (Even the idea of them being paired with others is intriguing. Hell, I originally planned for there to be a Mimiko/Kin ending in the first game.) I took great consideration into various character dynamics when writing this installment, so I think it'd be silly if I were opposed to people shipping outside what's canon. I think the only ones I'm iffy on are romantic pairings involving Kira, since I wrote them to be aro/ace.
Oh, nice to hear you're not opposed to this! Thanks! I think it's easy to guess which pairing I like though.. Since I drew a small comic with them ;DD
Even though Kyouko has canonical love interest I like imagining her and Kin getting closer to each other. I think you can imagine my reaction to what Kin says about Kyouko in the last extra and all their interactions
Peak.
I don't have time right now, but I can't wait to play it this weekend!!
Edit: This game is awesome, it's such an improvement over the original! I really liked it !
AHHHHHHHH I CANT WAIT FOR THIS TO COME OUTTTTTT
yes
Kin, I just say how it is: It's gonna be a really big emotional rollercoaster!
CAN'T WAIT FOR IT!!!
This was a welcome surprise, I'm hella excited to see what's coming up!
I’m really looking forward to it, I can’t wait!!
cant wait. I thought she was an annoying but not bad character when I played the game, I just didn't like her. I hope to see what she was seeing then. She has such bad taste in men tho poor girl
